When I try to "print to Roland Versaworks" in SignLab 9.1 I get the message "Run Versaworks at least once" why is this occurring and what can be done to stop it? I run Versaworks but I still get the same message.

Try running the software as Administrator. The first time you run an application, it will also create the necessary registry files and preferences. This might even "tell" to other applications that you have installed it. After this procedure, go back to SignLab and check its functionality. If, by any means, something happens during this process, and Signlab gives the same error, then I recommend reinstalling both applications using Run as Administrator option.
